Re: Colostrum vs. Whey
Colostrum has antibodies in it, and is only produced for a few
days. You cannot get the benefits of using whey instead of
colostrum. As a farmer, AND in major cheese making country
(Wisconsin), if whey had the benefits of colostrum, us farmers would
be running to the nearest cheese factory for whey for orphan
animals. Oh, by the whey (sorry, couldn't resist!), these cheese
factories load up the excess whey and spray on farmers fields much
like slurrey (liquid manure). There isn't much use for it around
here. Well, I should say there is more whey produced than what the
market calls for. But, my chickens sure like it (we make goat
cheese.)

Many of us farmers will keep and freeze colostrum for emergensies.
We supplied goat colostrum and milk to an orphan Belgian draft foal
this last summer. I wish whey WAS as beneficial, as we had an
awefull time keeping up with the demands of that giant of a baby!

Oh, and (just remembered), the dairy farmers cannot put colostrum
milked from the cows into the bulk tank (milk tank) to be sold for
human consumption whether in fluid milk or cheese and butter. So
there is also never any whey left over from colostrum.
