RE: kefir contamination from viili (again)
The problem is that Viili or CSY culture happily settles on kefir grains and
after that I am not sure it is possible to separate one from the other. I read
that in 3 days viili culture dies out -- I doubt that greatly.

Thanks,
Vladimir.

Subject: [Kefir_making] kefir contamination from viili (again)

I know this was covered not long ago, and I read all the posts with interest
since I had just gotten a villi culture. My kids really enjoy the mild
yoghurt like-ness of it. I was very careful not to switch lids, and all my
jars get run through the dishwasher. I wash my hands... you know, all the
regular stuff.  Now my kefir is all snotty and ropey like the villi :((

What happened?? I did break my grains up (it is a flat sheet) and rinsed
them well. They always go into fresh raw goat milk. I would throw out the
villi (it isn't my favorite) but the kids like it mixed with fruit.  I just
want to resolve this problem before I order new grains :(

Thank you for any help,

kathy
