I bake sour dough bread for years and have always a starter in the
refrigerator. Once I tried out Dominic's recipe for sour dough from
kefir, and it worked very well.
Initially I bought my starter, packaged and dried,  "San Francisco Sour
Dough Starter", in a grocery store. I have seen the packages in several
stores, like William Sonoma, Cost Plus etc. It should be easy enough to
send a package by mail.
