Good morning!!! Since this is an open forum, all suggestions, ideas, etc.
are always welcome. Dom cautioned against using chlorinated water, and
recommended using a mild soap, so I defer to his authority on the matter.

Hi. I want to add my two cents. I have been making kefir since late
February, and I keep it as low fuss as is practical for me. I wash
the jars with regular faucet water, regular dish detergent, and a
bottle brush that I use to clean other glasses as well. I'm sure you
could be more fussy about the whole thing, but I don't think it's
necessary. I'm not saying I'm right or perfect, but it works for me,
and I can also say that my grains grow really well. I don't dry the
jars with anything except air. The exception is if I need to use the
same jar right away, I will dry it really well with paper or cloth.
Now, if I ever need to rinse the actual grains for sending to
someone, I use my Brita water. I make sure not to get untreated
faucet water or metal on the babies, but other than that, I keep it
low key. Life is busy enough without getting frantic about kefir
babies. :)
